Glossary of Vingan Names and Terms

 

 

 

 

 

·        Alina the Earnest.  Alina was a priestess of the Jerelling clan of the Locaem who discovered how to summon Vinga’s Summer Wind.

·        Annwyth OddEars. Hero of the Adventurer subcult who found the Path of Nine Cats. Hero cult based at Leaping Rock shrine.

·        Anratha the Frontierswoman.  Hero of the Pathfinder subcult. Helped to found New Pavis. Cult based in Pavis.

·        Avenging Daughter.  A priestess of the Avenger subcult.

·        Berestha Earthsister. Hero of the Vinga the Avenger subcult who had the power to render men permanently impotent with her gaze.

·        Beloved of the Goddess. A title given to initiates whose hair turns red during the initiation rituals, but prior to The Earth Vows being taken. They are considered favoured by the Goddess and are expected to go on to great things.

·        Blade of Women.  One of Vinga’s names.

·        Blood Sisters. Member of the hero cult of Berestha Earthsister.

·        BrokenElm Stead.  Shrine of the Lurdaeva DarkSpear hero cult, near Zatarn Lake.

·        Bull Flood.  Site where Vinga saved Urox. Location of an Urox temple.

·        Child of Vinga.  A title given to initiates whose hair turns red during the initiation rituals, but prior to The Earth Vows being taken. They are considered favoured by the Goddess and are expected to go on to great things.

·        Clearwine.  Settlement with Vingan temple, home to the WayMakers.

·        Clear Voices, The.  Pathfinder Hero cult of Maralda ClearVoice. Also called the White Cloaks, they are based in Pavis.

·        Coldwater Sisters, The.  Vingans of the Meredeth hero cult.

·        Coldwater Stead.  Shrine near Ezzjuzz Mountain, centre of the Meredeth hero cult.

·        Dancer in the Storm.  Ancient title granted to great heroes of the Goddess.

·        Dancers of the Laughing Goddess, The.  The hero band of the Kallyr the Dancer hero cult.

·        Daughter of Vinga.  A Vingan of priestess rank.

·        Defender’s Fort.  Vingan temple north of Swenstown. Destroyed following the Starbrow Rebellion.

·        Defending Daughter. A title occasionally given to Defender Storm priestesses.

·        Enyarna Stead Daughter.  Hero of the Spearwoman subcult. In and around the Far Place

·        Ernalda’s Home.  Major temple of Ernalda in Esrolia. The temple complex includes a large Vingan temple.

·        Estrel Dalathae.  Ancient hero of the DarkStorm cult. Her secretive hero cult serves the Six EarthShadow Sisters.

·        Farshot.  Site on the Marzeel River where Vinga killed the rapist Kardan with her Mile Javelin Throw.

·        Favoured Daughter.  One of Vinga’s names.

·        Five Winds, The.  Vingan warband based in Pavis. Led by Burrasca the White.

·       Forgotten Wind, The.

·        Fort of Mists, The.  Tarthcaer, see entry.

·        Gale Defender.  One of Vinga’s names.

·        Gateway. A title of Vinga’s that refers to her role in enabling women to join normally men-only Orlanth subcults (from the Questlines website).

·        Govora Spear Daughter.  Popular Esrolian hero cult. Govora was a hero of the Silver Bull Clan famed for her skill at commanding troops, and cunning tactics. She established the Spear Council of the Spear Daughter warband.

·        Hall of the Red Lady.  Temple to the Goddess in the Big Rubble, Pavis.

·        Hareva The WayMaker.  Hero cult of Hareva The WayMaker, a Vingan of the Black Spear Clan of the Colymar. She scouted the way for Colymar when he first entered Kerofinela. Hero cult based at Clearwine Vinga shrine.

 

·        Jareva ThreeCast.  Hero from Ralios venerated for her skill at uzfighting. Shrine at Amadhall.

·        Kallyr the Dancer.  Sartarite hero of the Adventurer subcult. Brought the Dance of Vinga back from a heroquest. Shrine at Pavis.

·        Kallyri, The.  Vingan warband following Kallyr Starbrow.

·        kayling.  Worshipper of the Goddess from a different clan or tribe.

·        Lallara ShadowWalker.  Secretive hero cult of the DarkStorm subcult.

·        Lance Daughter. Leader of a Voudisean Lance.

·        Lance Sister. Initiate of the Voudisea subcult.

·        Last Cast.  Vingan temple just south of Old Wind temple. Shrines to Avenger, Defender Storm, Spearwoman, Maralda ClearVoice

·        Lasting Mist Stead.  Shrine to Vinga and the Tathwen Stormstrider hero cult at Lasting Mist Valley near Poet’s Mountain.

·       Laughing Daughters.

·        Leaping Rock.  Vinga shrine in the Damalan Hills. Includes a shrine to Annwyth OddEars.

·        Living Blade of the Goddess.  Ancient title given to great heroes of the faith.

·        Lookout Hill.  Site where Vinga and Rigsdal fought Chaos in the Great Darkness. Location of a Rigsdal shrine.

·        Loom Blessing Vows.  Vows taken by Vingans to help them emulate Vinga’s time at the Loom House.

·        Loyal Daughter.  One of Vinga’s names.

·        Loyal Daughter.  Priestess in charge of a temple.

·        Loyal Lance Daughter. Senior priestess of the Voudisea cult.

·       Lurdaeva DarkSpear.  Heortling hero cult of Lurdaeva DarkSpear, a Sylangi Vingan. She discovered a hero path that led to the Storm Age and returned with the spear of a dying fire god. Shrine at Secondtop.

·        Maralda ClearVoice.  Hero of Vinga the Pathfinder. Hero cult based in Pavis

·        Meredeth.  Hero of the Defender Storm subcult. Based at Coldwater Stead near Ezzjuzz Mountain in Sartar.

·        Mist Fort, The.  Tarthcaer, Vinga’s hill fort in the Quivin Mountains. Always surrounded by a mist cloud that no man can penetrate.

·        Morfanwen Keenspear.  Small hero cult of the Dundealos tribe of Sartar commemorates a hero of the Grey Alynx clan. Shrine at Pavis.

·        Orande the Odd. Ancient hero of the Adventurer subcult.

·        Path of Nine Cats.  The hero path first found by Annwyth OddEars.

·        Pelessa OakHeart.  Esrolian hero cult of a famous hero of the Red-Headed Lodge of the Berennethtelli tribe.

·        Quiet Rest Stead.  Enferalda shrine not far from Halfort in the Charandar Hills (on the lands of the Thrussa clan of the Balmyr). According to clan myth this is where Enferalda helped Vinga to carry Drogarsi after the Three Hopping Things wounded him, a belief shared by many of the tribes of central and northern Sartar.

·        Red Alynx Sister.  Member of the Annwyth OddEars hero cult.

·        Red Alynx Sisters.  Collective name for the members of the Annwyth OddEars hero cult.

·        Red Alynx Daughter.  Priestess of the Annwyth OddEars hero cult.

·        Red Clan of Pavis, The.  Vingan warband based in Pavis.

·        Red Daughter.  One of Vinga’s names.

·        Red Daughter.  Priestess of the Vinga the Avenger subcult.

·        Red Deer Woman.  One of Vinga’s names.

·        Red-Headed Daughter.  One of Vinga’s names.

·        Red-Headed Daughter.  Title given to a Vingan of exceptional piety and achievements.

·        Red-Headed Lodge.  Vinga’s stead near the Twisted Flint Spire. All good Vingans go there after death.

·        Red Lady.  Priestess of the Avenger subcult who has taken the Red Vows, and is in charge of a temple.

·        Red Lance Daughter. Priestess of the Voudisea subcult.

·        Red Larch Hill. A small Vinga shrine in the Bevara Ridges, where Bevara once healed Vinga after she had been badly wounded by Zorak Zoran.

·        Red Sister.  Initiate of the Avenger subcult who has taken the Red Vows.

·        Red Vows, The.  Vows of vengeance taken by Avenger subcult members, or Ernaldans who wish to temporarily draw upon the blade strength of all women.

·        Red Woman.  One of Vinga’s names.

·        Red Woman.  Ernaldan who has temporarily joined the Avenger subcult, and sworn the Red Vows.

·        Shadow Dancer, The.  Head of the Lallara ShadowWalker hero cult.

·       Shields Against Darkness, The.

·        Shield of Women.  One of Vinga’s names.

·        Shield-Sister.  One of Vinga’s names.

·        Six EarthShadow Sisters.  Secretive organisation of DarkStorm worshippers based at Ernalda’s Home in Esrolia.

·        Spear Council.  Ruling body of the hero cult of Govora SpearDaughter.

·        Spear Daughter.  One of Vinga’s names.

·        Spear Daughter.  Priestess of the hero cult of Govora SpearDaughter.

·        Spear Daughters.  Hero cult of Govora SpearDaughter.

·        Spear Sister.  Initiate of the of the hero cult of Govora SpearDaughter.

·        SpearPoint Lodge.  Vinga temple near Pennel in Esrolia. Centre for the Govora SpearDaughter hero cult.

·        Stead Daughter.  One of Vinga’s names.

·        Stead Daughter.  Member of the Enyarna SteadDaughter hero cult.

·        Stead Daughters, The. Collective name for members of the Enyarna hero cult.

·        Storm Daughter.  Priestess of Vinga the Adventurer.

·        Storm Lady.  Senior priestess of the Vinga the Adventurer.

·        Sword Dancers.  Initiates of the Kallyr the Dancer hero cult.

·        Sword Daughter.  Priestess of the Kallyr the Dancer hero cult.

·        Sword Storm Daughter.  Ancient title given to a favoured follower of the Goddess.

·       

·        Tarthcaer.  The Fort of Mists. Vinga’s main temple. In the Quivin Mountains of Sartar.

·        Tathwen Stormstrider.  Hero of the Defender Storm subcult. Famed for her ability to walk on clouds. Cult based at Lasting Mist Valley near Poet’s Mountain.

·        Tenostere of the Vestantes.  Dundealos tribe hero cult of the famous hero and companion of King Rastagar. Here she is venerated for her anti-sun cult powers.

·        ThreePine Hill.  Shrine of the Alina the Earnest hero cult. Near Northvale in Heortland.

·       TwoFort Sisters, The.

·        Vingaford. Town on the Marzeel river (Heortland). Near to where Vinga and her followers defeated Marzeel and his warband.

·        Vinga Poles.  Warded poles that are part of a defensive palisade.

·        Voudisea the Lance Goddess.  Esrolian subcult of Vinga. Voudisea was a follower of the Goddess during the Darkness and was renowned for her skill at riding and with the lance.

·        War Daughter.  One of Vinga’s names.

·        War Daughter.  Title given to Natalina Vingasdottir.

·        War Women, The.  The female fighting deities of the Orlanth/Ernalda pantheon. Includes Vinga, Erantha Gor, Babeester Gor, Maran Devor, Bevara, and Enferalda.

·        War Women, The.  All-female Colymar warband.

·        WayMaker.  A member of the WayMaker hero band.

·        WayMakers, The.  Hero band devoted to Hareva the WayMaker. Based at Clearwine temple.

·       Wilful One.  One of Vinga’s names.

·        Wilful Woman.  One of Vinga’s names.

·       Wind Daughter. A title occasionally given to Defender Storm priestesses.

  • Wind Lady. Used to refer to any Vingan priestess who also venerates an Orlanth Adventurous subcult.
